Simple Ways to Prevent Fuel Waste
Gas prices are expected to remain high, making it all the more important to ensure that your car isn't wasting fuel. By taking some simple measures, you can help your car achieve better fuel-efficiency. At Harvey's Autotech, our local mechanics can conduct maintenance tasks that will help your car attain the best gas mileage possible. But there are also some simple tasks you can do yourself to prevent fuel waste.
Quick Tips for Better Gas Mileage
One simple way to prevent fuel waste is to make sure you're driving with correct tire pressure. Generally, tire pressure is supposed to be at a point between 30 and 35 psi, but it's worth checking your particular requirements and then inflating your tires accordingly. If your tires are underinflated, then your engine will have to expend more power to get the soft rubber to roll, which can cause a dip in MPGs. Another simple fuel-saving measure is to make sure your gas cap is tightly secured after each time you fill up your tank. A loose or missing gas cap can allow fuel to evaporate before the engine gets the chance to use it.
When you visit our local auto shop for maintenance, we can complete maintenance that will help your car get better gas mileage. Fuel filters generally need to be replaced between 20,000 and 30,000 miles, which will help to prevent pollutants from harming fuel-efficiency and engine performance. It's best to replace air filters every 12,000 to 15,000 miles so that the right quantity of air can get to the combustion chamber. This will prevent the engine from burning extra fuel to compensate for a lack of air. At our shop, we can also complete other types of regular maintenance that will help your car attain optimal fuel-economy, such as spark plug replacement and oil changes.
